The Friesenviertel is akin to Temple Bar in Dublin - at weekends the whole square comes to life with Stag and Hen parties, both tourist and local alike. The area holds bars that are open until 5am, and is at its peak every Spring for the traditional Cologne festival of Karneval. During this period, beginning on Weiberfastnacht, the last Thursday before Ash Wednesday all of Cologne celebrates together, a 5 day spectacle that has to be seen to be believed!
Cologne is a city with plenty to do - the historic Dom, several major Museums, the Rhein, and a huge tradefair centre in Deutz all attract millions of tourists each year. The Christmas Markets, running in November and December are another major tourist attraction.
Fly easily to Cologne with Ryanair, Cologne-Bonn Airport is 10 minutes from the city centre by train, Duesseldorf 25 minutes and Frankfurt 50 minutes.
